About Us
Founded in 2004, The Student Leadership Academy is a tuition-free, public charter middle school located on the island in Venice, Florida. Our board of directors, comprised primarily of community leaders and parents, helped establish our school and guide our current direction. The school enrolls approximately 310 students, and our students enjoy an intimate atmosphere with an average of 20 students per classroom.
SLA focuses on a complete education that emphasizes success in academics, the arts, athletics, extracurricular clubs and community service with a mission that is clear:
| * | To provide an academic and social atmosphere that will promote SCHOLARSHIP in adolescents by encouraging them to discover and develop their individual talents and to recognize that reading is a requisite skill for scholarship in all areas; |
| * | To create stimulating opportunities for students to develop LEADERSHIP skills, and; |
| * | To instill in students, the value of volunteerism through SERVICE learning. |
Students can pursue their interests and participate in a variety of activities. Our rigorous academic programs prepare students for future achievement, and students can advance to a variety of high school programs based on their individual needs.
Our students also learn the importance of self-discipline, respect, and personal responsibility. These values, outlined in the SLA parent and student contracts, are vital to the school atmosphere.
SLA supports extensive parental involvement in all aspects of school life. We have fostered an active and successful partnership between our parents and staff to ensure the success of each student.
